Episode 5 Morals

In plain English, these are the morals from Episode 5:

Black Knight, Blackmailed, Blackballs Black Male

I think Ryan's got more power than is sometimes acknowledged as long as Vikki's protective umbrella is over him. And Victor these days wields too much power. I wanted to explore what would happen if Ryan flexed his muscles. And anyway, this sets up the Dru plot later down.

Dru Tells Neil About Her New Job

As a modern male, I am sick of seeing the patronizing attitude that Neil has toward Drucilla. There is no excuse for him claiming that his job is more important than hers. His neandrathal attidue is just plain embarrassing to me. Showing that his job might be fragile, too, reflects reality. He is lucky that Dru has a job, too, and they can certainly afford some day care to gloss the small detail of making sure their daughter is taken care of.

Joanie Cooks Up New Hope for Phyllis

Joanie is treated like as if she was just scenery. We never really see any attempt to work her into a storyline or even sometimes to explain her odd presence in the house when Little Daniel is not there. This was just exploring some of those options.

Vic Jr. Learns His ABC's

Why does everyone on this show say ``former wife'' and none say ``ex-wife''? My theory? It's because the writers write dialog without regard to who will be speaking it. Everyone on this show talks the same dialect and uses the same idioms and expressions ... except that now and then, the black characters are allowed to get slightly ethnic, and certain characters are allowed to call others by names that are their own pet names. But beyond that, people need to differ more in personality and style when it comes to their style of speech. And we could start by some saying "ex-wife" and some saying "former wife".

That's all for Episode 5's morals. Don't miss Episode 6 and its morals!
