Episode 34 Morals

In plain English, these are the morals from Episode 34:

Cole has a brilliant story idea

I think this piece pretty much speaks for itself. Time for some new plots with these folks.

Diane is a slim ray of hope. Mostly she has been boring with Jack, their only conversation being about whether he remembered to call her beautiful today. But the recent scenes with her about Victor and trust and meddling were, I thought, very interestingly and realistically done, showing Diane has it in her to be firm and to show some personality, if the writers will just let her. So maybe things are looking up. (But then again, I'm not holding my breath.)

By the way, the subtitle "Diane toughs it out when the going gets rough" is intended to evoke a sense of the old slogan "When the going gets rough, the tough go shopping."

Ashley learns more about Kurt's past

Can you tell I'm just a little bit annoyed at these secret revelations that suddenly "pop out" about Kurt without any foundation? On the newsgroup, someone asked why we hadn't seen evidence of Kurt's medical background when he was in the hospital. Louise Cooke suggested that probably the writers hadn't decided yet that he even had such a background. I agree. I think that if they had known, they should have been busy laying clues for weeks (or is it months now?) so that at least the audience knows the truth and can anticipate the event of characters on the show finding out--that's the way good melodrama works. But instead, they just spring these things on us without any hint it's coming, and that leads us to just be disbelieving.

Connie gets a call from the Gateway to the West

``Gateway to the West?'' Or was that ``Gates, way to the west''? Well, whatever.

They sure do have a lot of OLD computer equipment at Newman Enterprises. Is it not important to satisfy the computer-literate part of the audience? You'd never have old raggedy couches in Victor's office and say "no one will notice".

It really does surprise me that Victor hasn't tried to influence the outcome of a business situation using his money, by the way--it's really out of character for him to stay hands-off about the move. He wouldn't do anything overtly, I think, but I don't believe he could keep himself from trying to do something covert. So I just played my normal "What would Victor try to buy in order to stop it?" script, and I realized probably nothing is for sale in Seattle. But then again, Gates seems a savvy businessman, so I figured he'd figure out a way to offer Victor a compromise.

That's all for Episode 34's morals. Don't miss Episode 35 and its morals!
